The men have once again decided what a woman can do with her body
Our conservative male president appointed more conservative male justices to our Supreme Court last year and now that court has decided against a certain type of abortion – a type that is sometimes the safest for the woman.
According to a Washington Post article “Six federal courts have said the law that was in focus Wednesday is an impermissible restriction on a woman’s constitutional right to an abortion.” Then again, when has this administration cared about the Constitution? All it cares about is imposing its conservative agenda on the rest of us.
The Supreme Court now has eight men and only one woman, while women make up slightly more than half of this nation’s population. Yet our male dominated society has once again told us what we can do with our own bodies. I am so pissed.
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the sole woman on the Supreme Court, wrote in dissent and said today’s ruling is alarming. The Washington Post reported that Ginsburg said the ruling “refuses to take … seriously” previous Supreme Court decisions on abortion. “Instead, the court shields women by denying them any choice in the matter. This way of protecting women recalls ancient notions about women’s place in society and under the Constitution — ideas that have long since been discredited.”
In typical cowardly fashion, this very important portion of Bush’s agenda was hidden behind a story of great impact – the shooting at Virginia Tech – and women will barely even notice they have once again been blind-sided by the patriarchal system.
